May25th.com was forged May 25, 2020, on the streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota. That was the day police murdered George Perry Floyd in front of the world. In the days that followed this awful event, raw, unquenchable anger, frustration, and heartache circled the globe. More than a billion people, in over 60 countries, took to the streets in solidarity. That's extraordinary.
To the credit of humanity, they weren’t angry, rampaging mobs hell-bent on destruction. Instead, people wanted to express their love, empathy and heartache. George Floyd was at the center of the protests, but people were also protesting ALL the senseless killings. They just keep happening over and over again, all around the world. The demonstrations stretched around the globe because these senseless killings stretch around the globe.
The immense compassion and empathy shown for a complete stranger was humanity at its best. The mood of the demonstrations can be perfectly summed up by Booker T. Washington when he said "I will let no man drag me down so far that I hate them." The goal of the demonstrations was simply to get through the trauma we all experienced.
